Steven Gill Obituary

Steven Lee Gill "Uncle Steve," 68 of Davenport, Iowa passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, after a brief illness. Steven was born on November 8, 1956 to Arbert Eckless Gill and Margaret Kathrine (Simon) Gill in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Steve was born into a large family and was the youngest of 10 siblings. Steve was a beloved brother, nephew, uncle and loyal friend.

Steve moved to Davenport, Iowa with his mother at a young age and was a lifelong resident of Davenport. Steve graduated from Davenport West High School, class of 1975, and after graduation Steve became a Union Laborer, and a member of the Laborers Union, Local #309; he retired from the Laborers Union in 1996. After retirement from the Laborers Union, Steve worked at the Great Plains Blind Factory for 18 years before again retiring. Through his years of working, he developed great friendships with many co-workers and he cherished each friendship that he made along the way.

Steve married Pamela Jean Mason on November 14,1981, and they were married for 24 years. Upon their marriage union they became the "power uncle and aunt couple" to their multiple nieces and nephews. Steve had 23 first nieces and nephews, and he was also a great-uncle and great-great uncle to many nieces and nephews. Steve deeply loved and enjoyed all his family; especially, his nieces and nephews and relished in each of their accomplishments. Steve was always supportive, loving, great listener and full of wisdom to share in times of need. He was loved and endeared by all of his nieces and nephews and will be deeply missed.

Steve followed in the footsteps of his mother, Margaret, as being a great cook. He enjoyed cooking, especially on his grill and enjoyed sharing meals with family and friends. Steve loved and enjoyed a variety of music and enjoyed dancing. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and long countryside Harley rides with friends.

He enjoyed NASCAR racing and watching college and professional football; he was an avid Detroit Lions fan.

Steve was a friend to many and stranger to none, he had a personality that lit up a room and within minutes of meeting Steve all knew they had a lifelong friend. Steve was genuine and loyal to his lifelong, Davenport, "Westend" friends, and to his friends that he met along his life journey. Steve's friends returned the same loyalty, love and friendship till the end, and a heartfelt "Thank you" goes out to Rocky Feeney, Roger Timmerman, Rick Dexter, Ron Miller, Rich Holst, Joe Mirfield, Tom Bushma and Randy DeCrane for showing up day after day to help with whatever was needed, to share endearing and fun memories with Steve and his family, or to just sit quietly by Steve's side and be present in the moment, you all are special angels and may God Bless you all. A special "thank you" to Heartland Hospice and the amazing staff who gave exceptional end-of-life care to Steve. We appreciate everything you did for Steve and the family. God bless you all.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, A.E. Gill, mother Margaret K. Gill, brothers, Allen Ervin Gill, Darrell Elton "Skinny" Gill, Calvin Wayne "Dutch" Gill; and sister Dovey Geneva (Gill) Hodge, niece Michelle Lynne (Gill) Briseno and nephew Melton Oscar Smith.

Those left to carry on Steve's memory include his brother, Harley Dennis. "Bull" Gill, sisters Linda (Gill) Richardson, Marjorie (Gill) Nicewanner, Sara (Gill) Simmons, Kathy (Gill) Gordon, brothers-in-laws DeWain Hodge, Horace Simmons, and countless nieces and nephews who all brought him an abundance of lifelong joy and his lifelong friends.

In accordance with Steve's wishes cremation has taken place with final deposition of his ashes to be placed in Bayou Meto Cemetery in Arkansas alongside his family.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 8th at Fricks Tap, 1402 W. 3rd St. Davenport, Iowa from 5:00 pm-9:00 pm. Friends and family of Steve are welcome to join in remembering and celebrating Steve.
