Thomas W. "Mac" McMahon, Jr., 84, of DeWitt, entered eternal life on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Fieldstone of DeWitt.
Thomas W. McMahon, Jr. was born on March 9, 1941 in Davenport to Tom and Erma (Hallman) McMahon, Sr. He proudly served our country in the Marine Corps from 1960 until 1964, and spent time stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Tom worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for thirty-one years. First on the Police Department where he made Captain, then as a Security Specialist on the Island, retiring in 1993. While at the Arsenal, he worked security detail when President Carter visited. He was on the Arsenal Police Pistol Team. His team placed first at the National Indoor NRA Championships from 1969 to 1974. Tom was also a NRA certified police firearms instructor.
Tom was united in marriage to Judy Schutt on March 26, 1966, and they were blessed with four children: Kim LaMaster, Kelli (Rick) Brown, Jody (Roger) Passig, and Tommy (Dallas) McMahon; eight grandchildren: Ashley (Jeremy), Britney (Jeremiah), Zach (Abby), Cody (Meghan), Courtney, Jordon (Miranda), Skylar, Brandon; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry McMahon; and a great-grandson, Dalton Christopher Oaks.
Tom took great pride in his family especially his grandchildren. He coached little league at Davenport West Little League in 1979. Tom enjoyed fishing and took many trips to Chetek, Wisconsin.
A gathering to celebrate Tom's life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 beginning at 1 p.m. at Buzzy's, 414 Main Street, Welton, Iowa 52774. All friends and family are welcome! In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
