Thomas Francis Peckosh

May 1, 1941 - September 30, 2024

Thomas Francis Peckosh, 83, entered eternal rest on Monday, September 30th. Tom died peacefully surrounded by family members at his side. He will be best remembered as a devoted husband and loving father.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 3rd, at Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4th, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lost Nation. He will be laid to rest at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Tom was born on May 1, 1941, in Lost Nation, Iowa, the son of Dr. Frank and Colette Peckosh. It was in this small town where Dr. Frank (the town OB) delivered Tom's future wife, Pam. Tom and Pam grew up in Lost Nation, where they began their long life together. Tom attended Loras College and upon graduation in 1963 he married Pam. The couple then moved to Iowa City where they started their family while Tom studied law at the University of Iowa. Tom went on to practice law in Bellevue and then Maquoketa, where he served as County Attorney for several years before opening his own practice. He took a sincere interest in people from all walks of life and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them, often spending hours in conversation and laughter. Tom enjoyed many things in life, but found particular joy in his faith, family, music, movies, trains, baseball, and the West (especially the Black Hills). After Tom retired from law, he divided his time between Rapid City, South Dakota "God's Country" and Iowa for several years. He was always one to take the scenic route.

Tom is survived by his bride, Pam, of 61 years. He is also survived by eight children: Tommy (Lacie) of Lake Ozark, Mo., Theresa of Maquoketa, Trent (Carol) of Longmont, Colo., Troy (Melissa) of Cedar Rapids, Tonya (Mark) of Des Moines, Tara (Helbert) of Moline, Ill., Todd (Amy) of Hill City, S.D., and Trisha of Des Moines; plus 30 grandkids: Emily P, Jacquelyn, Carolyn, T.J., Alyssa, Cole, Tori, Courtney, Jack, Ella, Anna, Abigail, Emily S, John, Kathryn, Peter, Andrew, Margaret, Nelson, Nathan, Noah, Natalie, Holly, Matthew, Marie, Grace, Gabriel, Maya, Michael, and Mateo; and two great-grandkids: Jayce and Riley. He is survived by his brother, Paul (Pam) Peckosh; sister, Judy (Gerald) Donaldson; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and grandparents.
