Virginia Elizabeth Bladel
November 18, 1940 - May 27, 2024
Virginia Elizabeth (Pickett) Bladel, passed away peacefully in Spring, TX, on May 27, 2024, at the age of 83. She was born November 18, 1940, in Ames, IA, to George M Pickett, Sr and Sarah (Fjelland) Pickett. Her family moved to Rock Island, IL, where she met and married her husband, John J Bladel in 1958.
She spent 20 years as a wine manager for a liquor wholesaler in Illinois. She and John followed daughter and family to Texas in 1992. She was known to her family as Ginger and affectionately known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Nana.
She is survived by children: Stephanie (Jeff) Brady of Houston, TX, Phil (Lori) Bladel of Durant, IA;grandchildren: Jacob (Kristie) Brady of Boerne, TX, Joni Bockwoldt of Antioch, IL, Jane Becker of Knoxville, IA, and Tim (Susan) Brady of Houston, TX; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother, Robert (Linda) Pickett of Rock Island, IL; numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: John and George; son, Scott Robert Bladel. She lost the love of her life John Bladel in 2007.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Novellus Senior Living for the last three years and Devotion Hospice for the wonderful care she received. A special thank you caregivers, Patty, Lupe, Alex and Yesenia.
Services in Houston to be held Saturday, June 1, 2024. Visitation will be at 9: 0 a.m. with services at 10:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church 14225 Hargrave. Burial and service to follow in Illinois on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. with a funeral following at 11:00 a.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
