June 24, 1934 - October 9, 2025
Wanda M. Spencer, 91, a resident of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any area animal shelter of your choice.
Wanda was born in Buffalo, Iowa, on June 24, 1934, the daughter of Arthur L. and Marguerite M. (McKnight) Borthick. She was a graduate of Davenport High School. On December 12, 1958, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, James H. Spencer, in Earlham, Iowa.
A licensed cosmetologist, Wanda owned and operated LaCharm Beauty Salon in Davenport for many years. Later, she worked as a supervisor for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Company in Davenport.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Wanda had a passion for genealogy, was a longtime fan of George Strait, and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Those left to honor her memory include her beloved husband, James; her daughters, Athena (Perri) Smith, Christine (Tom) Hayden, and Monique (Bruce) Miner; her sons, John Spencer, James "Harvey" Spencer, and Michael (Angela) Spencer; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as extended family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur "Mickey" Borthick; three grandchildren; and her cherished dog, "Shadow."
