IVAN HAMILTON STEWART JR Ivan Hamilton Stewart Jr, 90, of International Falls died June 3rd, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family. Ivan was born November 13th, 1933, in Proctor, MN. He graduated from Proctor High School in 1951. During his high school years, he learned the grocery business from his dad, Ivan Sr. He was drafted by the US Army and served in the 82nd airborne and was discharged after the Korean War. Ivan graduated from Hamline University in 1959 where he met Marica Rose. They were married in Mankato, MN on Sunday, December 21st. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage and adventures. Ivan and Marcia moved to International Falls in 1961 where he opened the Piggly Wiggly grocery store which eventually became Stewart's Super One. He dedicated his life to his business and to the community. Countless people had their first job at Piggly Wiggly/Super One, he was known by employees to be tough but fair. While his life was centered around the grocery store, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, skiing, fishing, curling, and golfing. He also loved investing and was a long-time member of the Rainy Lake Investors. He served as a Board member of Bremer Bank for over 50 years and was a member of the Elks Lodge for over 60 years. Ivan was also a member of Faith United Church. Ivan is survived by his wife, Marcia; sister, Nancy Stafstrom; his daughters, Cathy (Jim) Rys-Hannan and Patty (Mark) Nelson; son, Dave (Alison) Stewart; grandchildren, Sara Bungarden, Jim Rys, Luke Hannan, Ameilia Stewart, Stewart Nelson, and Sally Nelson; and great-grandchildren Lila, Mason, Harrison Bungarden, Jordyn Janchar, and Kobe Rys. A memorial Service will be held on Thursday June 20, 2024, at 11:00 am Faith United Church of Christ.
