RYLAN CRUZ BERGSTEDT
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Rylan Cruz Bergstedt, 19, of International Falls, Minnesota, on July 27, 2025.
Rylan was born at Falls Memorial Hospital on April 29, 2006: the beloved son of Morgan Bergstedt and Cheryl (Gjavenis) Bergstedt. He was a vibrant soul-loving, talented, intelligent, and a remarkable athlete whose boundless energy and curiosity touched everyone he met.
A bright and dedicated student, Rylan achieved remarkable academic success, from elementary school through college. In 2024, Rylan graduated with honors from International Falls High School and Minnesota North College-Rainy River where he earned an Associate of Arts Degree. Rylan had a 4.0 GPA and was awarded a large scholarship from UND. Rylan loved math and numbers. He briefly attended UND Grand Forks Campus in the fall of 2024 pursuing an engineering degree.
Beyond his steadfast academic achievements, Rylan was very active in many sports. They included little league baseball, hockey, golf, and bowling. Rylan was an outstanding bowler and often drew crowds and attention to his games. Rylan was proud to be on the Bronco High School bowling team and was selected for the All-Conference bowling team that took home the league championship in 2023 winning the Gold State Championship by a single pin. One of Rylan's greatest moments was when he proudly played junior varsity hockey beside his little brother, Evan, during the 2023-2024 Bronco season. Rylan leaves a plethora of awards, trophies, and medals.
Rylan found joy in life's simple pleasures: watching The Simpsons, boating across Rainy Lake, swimming, island hopping, snowmobiling, fishing, tubing, four-wheeling, and catching frogs on his family's island. He cherished picnics, indulging in chocolate cake, and carving new trails through the woods, each moment a testament to his adventurous and joyful nature.
Rylan's passion for music was deeply rooted within him. Rylan's love of music started early in his childhood up until his death. In Elementary school, Rylan picked the clarinet to learn to play following his sister's footsteps. He also played in the High school band. Reading music came naturally for him and he was recently learning to play guitar. Rylan had a lot of favorite artists including Twenty-One Pilots, NF, The 1975, Mother Mother, and Joji. His dedication to his favorite artist, Eden, was exemplified on his 17th birthday when he flew to Denver with his mother to see him perform live at the Ogden Theater.
Rylan believed there is a God and went faithfully to Awana's in grade school. Just recently Rylan's curiosity led him to seek the word of God. He was asking questions and searched out the answers with his family believing that he has been saved and is now safely in the arms of his Savior and has everlasting life.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Barbara Bergstedt and family dog, Chance.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his father, Morgan (Thea) Bergstedt; his mother, Cheryl (Gjavenis) Bergstedt; big sister, Kendal Gjavenis-Johnson; little brother, Evan Bergstedt; his grandparents, Harold Gjavenis, Les and Toni (Gjavenis) Conat; uncle and aunt, Paul and Launa Anderson; and his very special cousin, Amy (Jade Thronson) Anderson and their expected child.
Rylan will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
May his memory be cherished and his legacy of love, laughter, and unrelenting spirit live on forever.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Green-Larsen Mortuary in International Falls at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
