Sophie Mary Pisanos

Sophie M. Pisanos, 89, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 29, 2012, after complications from two back fractures. She was born in Kansas City, MO, on December 7, 1922, coming from a family of nine orphaned children.
She met her life's love in 1945, Steve N. Pisanos, a TWA pilot, who she married on June 30, 1946. She spent her life traveling and seeing the world through Steve's thirty years military duty with the United States Air Force. She was, as well, an avid tennis player. Above all, Sophie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was everything to her. She was a loving, caring and giving person until her death, and she will be in our hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ira, Tommy, Jimmy, Charles, Gregg and Nick; and sisters, Lena Roach and Virginia Smernes. She is survived by her husband, Col. Steve N. Pisanos, USAF (Ret.); children, Jeffrey S. Pisanos of Colorado Springs, CO, and Diane E. Pisanos of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Nicole Pisanos Wells of Colorado Springs, CO, and Brandon S. Pisanos of San Diego, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Baron M. Wells and Mackenzie D. Wells of Colorado Springs, CO.
A 6:30 p.m. evening service will be held on September 5, 2012, at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church at 3459 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, phone (760) 942-0920. A reception will follow at the church's hall. A funeral service will take place at the church at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012, followed by interment at Miramar National Cemetery on Nobel Drive, off Miramar Road.
