Betty R. Mowry
RAPID CITY - Betty R. Mowry, 84, of Rapid City, died on Saturday June 15, 2024, under hospice care at Avantara Mountain View.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church, Rapid City. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.
Betty Ruth Denton was born on May 9, 1940, in Hot Springs, to parents Frank and Alice (Martz) Denton. She attended and graduated school in Igloo, SD. She played an integral part in raising her younger brothers, Melvin, James, William, and Frank.
Out on the town one night, she met a young man, Henry "Hank" Mowry. It just so happened it was Betty's birthday, and to this young man that meant a great deal, because it was his birthday too! It was from this time they spent the next 67 years together.
They made their home in Scottsbluff, Hot Springs, and Rapid City. Betty, aside from raising the children, was a Floral Designer and also worked as a Hairdresser. She helped Hank with Henry's Gas and Laundromat in Hot Springs. They eventually made their move to Rapid City in April of 2012.
Betty is survived by her husband, Hank; daughters: Tammy Mowry, Lincoln, NE and Pamela (Roger) Bruce, Salt Lake City, UT; son, Patrick Mowry, Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Melvin (Rita) Denton, Alpine, WY; son-in-law, Tim Wiles; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Tina Wiles, and brothers: James, William and Frank.

I have fond memories of Betty while I did my laundry each week. She had a beautiful smile, good laughter, fun to talk with and she was always pleasant to me. What I remember was that she was a great wife, worker and wonderful mother. We all are sad that she is no longer here.
What I try to remember is that we will all be together....all in God's time. But for now, a prayer of comfort all of you. God blessed you all.
