Beulah 'Boots' Dennis

RAPID CITY - Beulah "Boots" Dennis, 76, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at Morningstar Assisted Living Center in Rapid City following a battle with lung cancer.

Boots Kissick was born Aug. 4, 1935, to Hugh and Dorothy (Boe) Kissick in Belle Fourche, where she was raised. She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1953.

She married John J. Dennis on Feb. 7, 1953; they moved to Rapid City following Boots' graduation from high school. Their children, Michelle and Michael, were born in 1955 and 1957, respectively.  Boots was a "stay-at-home-mom" until 1965, when she went to work for Stockman's National Life Insurance Company. Following her job with this company, she was employed as an Executive Assistant at Hills Materials Company for nearly 30 years before retiring. 

She was an active volunteer with local organizations, including Credit Women International and Altrusa, where she participated in the literacy program with the local Girls Club. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and reading.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle, of Rapid City; her son, Michael, of Washington, D.C.; and a number nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd., with the Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
