Darrell Robinson Obituary

Darrell Robinson

April 29, 1969 - June 5, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father and brother, Darrell James Robinson, who departed this life on June 5, 2025, at the Hospice House in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was 56 years old and lost his courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre with burial at Riverside Cemetery.

All who knew and loved Darrell are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.

Darrell was born on April 29, 1969, in Pierre, South Dakota, the youngest child of Harvey P. and Shirley (May) Robinson. Known for his loyalty, quiet strength, sense of humor, and unwavering love for family and friends, Darrell made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He graduated from Pierre Christian Academy in 1987. Darrell was a dedicated member of the Civil Air Patrol, a volunteer with the Pierre Fire Department, and served in dive rescue. He later moved to Rapid City, where he worked for many years as a cable installer, before transitioning to a role as a heavy equipment operator. At the time of his passing, he was employed at Site Works.

Darrell is survived by his beloved children, Alexandria Robinson (St. Paul, MN) and Tyler Robinson (Rapid City, SD); his siblings: Randy (Inge) Robinson, Kendall Robinson, Sandi (Brad) Stutesman, and Dean (Tammie) Robinson; five aunts, one uncle; five nieces, two nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-nephew who all loved him dearly.

He also leaves behind cherished lifelong friends: Julie Ogan-Kaltenbach, Kim Ness, Julie Oaks, Brenda Kiepke, Lenny Hamm, and Reggie Hamm. Darrell held a special place in his heart for his "pseudo parents," Ron and Diane Hamm, and Dick and Carol Melcher, whom he lovingly called "Mom and Dad."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Shirley Robinson, and three aunts and three uncles.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in the memories he left behind. Darrell's kindness and contagious laughter brought joy to everyone around him. He truly had a heart of gold.

In lieu of flowers, Darrell requested that donations be made to the Hospice House of Rapid City or the Cancer Foundation, in honor of his battle with cancer.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice House of Rapid City and Monument Oncology Department for their outstanding care, compassion, and dedication to Darrell. You are all true angels.
