David Falkena Obituary

David Abe Falkena

September 9, 2024

David Abe Falkena, 67, returned into the arms of his maker on September 9, 2024.

Born in Hawarden, Iowa to Barbara and Evert (Woody) Falkena, Dave was involved in all aspects of the arts, from stage presentations to musicals. An accomplished musician vocally and instrumentally, he was especially talented playing the trombone where he played in Middle and High School as well as subsequent community bands.

Upon graduating high school, he attended Judson College in Elgin, Ill., before he joined the United States Air Force where he met the love of his life, Ailyn. Following his tour, Dave and Ailyn married and he began an amazing career in the United States Postal Service from which he retired.

An enthusiastic athlete and philanthropist, his devotion to his local communities was apparent to all through his volunteer work in youth programs, where he coached multiple youth sports teams. This was most especially evidenced when he took an internationally competitive youth soccer team to the United Kingdom for enrichment. Although Dave succumbed in the battle against Dementia, he always knew he was loved and cared for by those closest to him. His love and compassion is still felt by everyone who knew him.

Dave is preceded in death by his younger brother, Kenny, and is survived by his parents; his brothers: Jerry, Terry; sister, Cheryl; his devoted wife, Ailyn; his children: Christian, Shelly, Charles, Schuyler; and his grandchildren: Haley, Natalie, Ben, Phelan, Tala, Lennon, Hendrik, and Van; as well as all of his beloved nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on October 12, 2024 at Floral Lawns Garden, 8001 S. Dodge Hill Rd., North Platte, Neb. 69101. A Celebration of Life will be held directly after at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 100 McDonald Rd.

Leadership comes in all forms, as does compassion. David embodied both in his time at Allied Universal Security in La Jolla. I was honored to bring him to the team, and will forward the devastating news to those that worked with him.

Without Dave, there would not have been a soccer program in Hot Springs. He was a great role model and leader who devoted his time, talents and so much more to develop this program. He was such a positive influence on the players he coached, and adults he worked with. Thank you, Dave, for all that you did for us, and for the community of Hot Springs. To Ailyn and Daves Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. He will be missed. JoAnn and Gordon Norton
