Dennis Hemmer Obituary

RAPID CITY - Dennis E. Hemmer, 52, of Rapid City died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Denny was born in Brookings January 24, 1955, to Don and Kathryn (Buckley) Hemmer. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1973. Denny married Linette Schimmel in Watertown on May 25, 1975. He loved working with cars. He worked as a body man at Bernie's Body Shop in Watertown for 15 years. He went on to manage the Body Shop at Krantz, Buick Olds in Watertown until he moved to Rapid City in 1999. He managed the Body Shop for Eddie's Truck Sales for about one year. He then went to work at Zylstra's Body Shop in Sturgis for six years. Two months ago he started working at Sunshine Auto in Gillette, Wyoming, until his death. Denny's hobbies were working with cars, boating and motorcycling. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Linette Hemmer of Rapid City; one son, James Hemmer and his son Shad of Watertown; daughter, Jessica Hemmer and her fiance Adam Olson and their children, Jaden and Kya, of Rapid City; daughter Jennalee Hemmer and her boyfriend, Andy Peterson of Rapid City; his mother, Kathryn Hemmer of Watertown; sister, Kay Nickelson of Castlewood; and brother, Doug Hemmer and wife Laurie of Watertown. He was preceded in death by his father Don, and brother Darrel. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2007, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 9, at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Rapid City. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City. Denny was one of my best friends throughout our childhood and teenage years in Watertown. I was saddened to hear of his passing. I have so many fond memories of our growing up years, especially the times we spent with his family at their lake cottage. I'll never forget him! My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
