Doris L. Miller

RAPID CITY - Doris L. Miller, 76, of Rapid City, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2006 at a local nursing home. Doris Laurine Miller was born on July 19, 1929, in Van Metre, SD to Louis and Anna Marie (Monson) Anker. She married Delmer I. Miller on February 20, 1948, in Tacoma, WA. The couple moved to Murdo, SD, where they lived until moving to the Black Hills in 1990. Over the years, Doris was a cook and waitress at the Star Restaurant, a clerk at Lee's V-Store, a bookkeeper at the First Fidelity Bank, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a sporting event chauffeur. In 1977, Delmer and Doris bought Chuck's Motel in Murdo, SD, and managed the motel for 13 years. During this time, Doris was the local dispatcher for emergencies. Doris enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, traveling, playing cards, her family, her church, and the outdoors. Those grateful to have shared in Doris' life are her husband of 58 years, Delmer; son Alan and his wife Anna Miller of Duluth, GA; daughter Darlene and her husband Jim Swanson of Eugene, OR; brother Leonard of Rapid City; and sister Inez Cardamon of Hill City, SD; four grandchildren, Christina and Jamie Miller, and Jesse and Ben Huntsman; and two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Daniel. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Mons Anker, and a sister Mildred Rust. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the Kirk Funeral Home, with Pastor Bob Ruedebusch presiding. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.
