Fred Stott Obituary

RAPID CITY - Fred Stott, 88, of Rapid City passed to be with God on Wednesday, October 19, at the Dorsett Home in Spearfish after a battle with Cancer. He passed away with his loved ones by his side, peacefully and quietly. Fred was born on September 22, 1917, in Fullerton, NE, to Joseph Duncan Stott and Emma Alice Pickrel Stott, the youngest of seven children. Fred was raised on the farm there and it was where the foundation for his toughness, that we came to know and love, was laid. Fred was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he was on a crew that maintained B-17 bombers. He was very proud of his service to his country and it was a source of great pride to him. On August 2, 1954, he wed Rosa McNulty in Cozad, NE. Together they had 1 daughter, Lana. They moved to Newcastle, WY, where Fred went to work for Johnson Fuel Liners Co. After 11 years, Fred moved his family to Rapid City, where they stayed. He worked for 10 years at Barber Transportation as a Tire Mechanic. After 10 years Fred retired and attended to the two most important things in his life, his family and his faith. Fred was a member of First Christian Church since 1969, where he attended faithfully and sat in the same pew for 36 years. Fred enjoyed fishing, tinkering on cars, and life in general. Fred was courageous in his final years dealing with cancer and declining health in general. He is a hero to his family and will be missed by them dearly. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosa, Rapid City; daughter and son-in-law Lana and Gene Bussell, Rapid City; grandsons Jim Bussell and his wife Tausha, Rapid City, and Mike Bussell of Rapid City; granddaughter Brianne Bussell, Rapid City; and 2 great-grandchildren, Brendon and Breiane, Rapid City. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City and one hour prior to services. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church with Pastor Dale Bartscher and Pastor Bob Cole officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lawn Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to First Christian Church, 730 Quincy Street, Rapid City, SD 57701.
