Harold Berfiend Obituary

CYRIL, Okla. - Funeral service for Harold LeRoy Berfiend, 73, Cyril, Okla., will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Cyril, with The Rev. Charles Echols officiating. Mr. Berfiend died Friday, Sept. 18, in Lawton. Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. A special visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Harold LeRoy Berfiend was born July 5, 1936, in Rapid City, S.D., to Lawrence Jeffrey and Ella Florence Berfiend. He married Nancy Lea Gibson on June 12, 1960. He worked in the grocery store business all of his life, and in 1989 bought Cyril Food Store. He owned it nearly 20 years until it closed in June 2008. Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cyril, Men's Sunday School Class, and Men's Breakfast Group. He also served nine years in the Army National Guard. Harold is survived by his wife Nancy, of the home; one son, Harold Lawrence Berfiend, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Patty Kay and Gary L. Rainey, Jr., of Lawton, and Brenda Lea and Brian Penny, of Mustang, Okla; seven grandchildren, Zachary and Madalyn Berfiend, Logan, Colton, and Tanner Rainey, and Jordan and Greg Penny; and two sisters, Judy and Bill Cobb, of Rapid City, S.D., and Florence Lee, of Sparks, Nev. Harold was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cleo Craig Memorial Research at 5002 W. Lee Blvd., Lawton, Oklahoma 73505.
