Larry Rowland Obituary

MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. - Larry A. Rowland, 54, of rural Mount Carroll, Illinois, died Monday, May 19, 2003 at Freeport Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll. Pastor John Ewing of Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren in Lanark, Illinois will officiate. Burial will be in the Lanark Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003 at the Funeral Home. Larry was born Wednesday, October 20, 1948 in Salem Township, Carroll County, Illinois, the son of Earl and Bessie (Isenhart) Rowland. He graduated from Lanark High School with the Class of 1968. Larry was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Barbara E. Neiss on October 21, 1972 at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna, Illinois. Larry formerly worked for Kelly Springfield in Freeport, Illinois. He and Barb purchased and moved to their farm in Salem Township in 1987. Larry loved farming the land and took real pride in his work. He was especially fond of the outdoors and enjoyed attending auctions. Larry found great satisfaction in working with his hands. To celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, he and Barb built the house where they made their home. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of rural Mount Carroll; his mother, Bessie Rowland of Mount Carroll, IL.; a sister, Sandra (Gary) Koehn of Freeport, IL.; his mother and father-in-law, Calvin and Edith Neiss of Rapid City, S.D.; four sisters-in-law, Jaundel (Bill) Moore of Galena, IL., Diane Belk and her friend Mike Haffele of Savanna, IL., Judy (Bill) Neiss-Bergman of Phoenix, AZ. and Rena (Tom) Leite of Rapid City, S.D.; seven nephews and eight nieces. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Earl in November of 1975 and his longtime companion cat "Spot" in July 1998.
