Lola Gettert Obituary
RAPID CITY - Lola Gettert, age 83, of Rapid City, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Lola was born March 12, 1929 in Stuart, NE, the daughter of Oran and Emma (Stolcpart) Campbell. She attended school in Atkinson, NE. Lola was united in marriage to Robert Gettert in Ainsworth, NE, on August 26, 1947. The Air Force took them to Washington, Kansas and New York before retiring in South Dakota. Lola worked at Woolworth Department Store for 25 years, retiring in 1988.
Lola's family was most important to her, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many activities that she enjoyed. She volunteered in her granddaughter's classroom at General Beadle Elementary. There were daily phone calls with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren grow. She followed the Little League games her son umpired as well as watched NASCAR races. She played cards with friends and completed word puzzles and the Jumbo puzzle in the daily paper.
Her husband Robert preceded her in death on May 3, 1982. In addition to her husband, Lola was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and two sisters, and a granddaughter, Jeni Kiner.
Survivors include a son, Dan (Barb) Gettert of Rapid City; two daughters, Pam (Ralph) Kiner of Mitchell and Judy Chant of Rapid City; five grandchildren, Christie English, Jeff Gettert, Kim Day, Cathy Habart and Becky Kiner; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City with the Rev. Herb Cleveland officiating. Inurnment will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Black Hills Animal Shelter, Storybook Island or charity of your choice. Friends may sign Lola's online guestbook at www.kirkfuneralhome.com.
