Mayzie Tunks Obituary

RAPID CITY - Mayzie Jane Tunks, 94 of Rapid City, died Monday, February 23, 2004, at a local nursing home. Mayzie was born in Stewart, NE, May 30, 1909, to John and Olive (Spragg) Papke. She attended rural schools in the Springview, NE, and Winner, SD, areas. In 1928 she married Clarence Parlet, to which three children were born, Dona, Marcia, and Bob Parlet. Mayzie was a clerk in the famous Outlaw Store in Winner. In 1947 she was united in marriage to Richard Tunks. In 1954 they moved to the Northwest, living in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington, moving back to South Dakota in 1989 until her death. Her travels included covered wagons to 747's. Survivors include two daughters, Dona D. Howell of Fruitland, ID, Marcia L. Auch and husband Bill of Kansas City, KS; son, Robert L. Parlet and wife Alice of Sioux Falls; sister, Vada O'Dell and husband Dick of Rapid City; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. today at Kirk Funeral Home's Chapel of Light. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Kirk Funeral Home, with Dr. C. Richard Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.
