Roy Thomas Frankman

DEADWOOD - Roy Thomas Frankman, 71, Deadwood and formerly of Spearfish, passed away, Monday, April 12, 2004, at Northern Hills General Hospital, Deadwood. A Memorial Mass service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Deadwood, with the Rev. Fr. Paul G. Dahms, Celebrant. A reception will be held at Callahan's in the Franklin Hotel in Deadwood following the service. Everyone who has a story to share about Roy, please write it down and bring it to the reception. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial. Roy was born March 23, 1933, in Sioux Falls, to Roy and Mary Ellen Frankman. He grew up in Sioux Falls and worked for his dad at Olsen Frankman Livestock for 18 years. He came to Spearfish in 1971, and started his own cattle-buying business. Roy spent his lifetime investing in opportunities and creating trade in Spearfish. Companies he helped develop include: Pepsi-Cola Warehouse, the Super 8, Kelly Inn, Ziegler Building Center, Knecht Home Center, Fish & Hunter and many more. He was part of the trio that invested in the Country Kitchen, he was co-owner of the Sluice Restaurant and he helped recruit K-Mart. Even at age 71, he was still working on development projects. Roy is survived by one brother Bill (& Mary Helen) Frankman, Sioux Falls; three sisters Mary (& Joe) Nygaard, Calif., Donna (& Howard) Wold, Mitchell, and Theresa (& Dick) Hall, Omaha, Neb.; one aunt Irene Wheeler, Sioux Falls; very special friends, the Joe Hurley family; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wayne. Arrangements have been placed in the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel, Spearfish.
