Thomas John Morris

LEAD - Thomas John Morris was born Dec. 4, 1945, in Rapid City. He died May 8, 2010, at Fort Meade. The family moved to Lead when Tom was 3 years old and he attended St. Patrick's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Lead High School in 1963. Tom attended the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, and Black Hills State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Education. He married Judy Baldwin at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead and had two daughters, Dawn and Tammy, from this union. He was a teacher in Terraville, S.D., and in Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972-73 and in the National Guard until 1975. He worked in Wisconsin and Illinois prior to going into a 17-year business partnership with his brother, Dave, at Morris' Standard Station in Lead. He retired in 1995 following a work-related injury. He continued to reside in Lead until his death. Survivors include two daughters, Dawn and Tammy; three brothers, Dan Morris, Lead, Dave (Betty) Morris, Lead, and Peter Morris, Parker, Colo.; one sister, Linda (Bob) Asheim, Belle Fourche; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. Morris and Muriel I. (Hanson) Morris; and a sister, Sarah Cynthia (Sally Morris) Garcia. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Peace Chapel, Fort Meade (Building 148) with Father Paul G. Dahms officiating. Burial services will be at 11 a.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Black Hills Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Sturgis is handling the arrangements.
