Verdella B. Stahlecker
CASPER, WY - Verdella Berniece Stahlecker, 91, passed away at Shepherd of the Valley Healthcare Center in Casper, WY on February 8, 2023. She was born on June 1, 1931 at the family farm near Hosmer, SD, to Adam and Martha (Dabbert) Schumacher. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Verdella lived on the family farm until she married Alvin Stahlecker on April 23, 1950. They then lived in Aberdeen, SD. Verdella and Alvin were blessed with three sons and a daughter. The family relocated to Rapid City, SD in June 1964. Verdella was a wonderful wife and mother and enjoyed her family. After raising her children, she worked for Rausch Moving and Storage for 8 years. For the last six and a half years she has lived at Edgewood Assisted Living in Rapid City, only being moved to Casper for health reasons two weeks prior to her passing.
In their retirement years, Verdella and Alvin traveled to many places, including Australia, the Panama Canal, and Alaska. She loved her home, the outdoors and yard work, especially mowing the lawn. They were part of a coffee group for many years. In 1993, they started having yearly family reunions so they could see as many of their children and grandchildren as possible. These reunions have kept the family close even if the
distances where they live are great.
Verdella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; her brother, Arnold Schumacher.
Her survivors include sons: Eric (Ellen) of Casper, WY, Darrell (Beth) of Hobbs, NM, Monte (Denise) of Lubbock, TX; daughter, Deanna Nail of Del City, OK; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 on September 2, 2023 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rapid City with Pastor Doug Free officiating. Inurnment has already taken place at Pine Lawn Memorial Park, Rapid City.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 835 E. Fairmont Blvd., Rapid City, SD 57701 would be appreciated by the family.
