Victoria Pollock Obituary

Victoria "Vickie" M. Cappa Pollock

RAPID CITY - Victoria "Vickie" M. Cappa Pollock, 100, of Rapid City died at Good Samaritan Society Serenity Place in Rapid City, SD on Thursday, August 3, 2023. Her warm and gentle spirit will be remembered by all.

Victoria was born on December 6, 1922, to Stephen and Frances (Civretto) Cappa in Lead, South Dakota. She grew up in a close family, the youngest with four doting older brothers. She attended Lead schools, graduated from Lead High School in 1941 and was part of the first graduating class in the new high school.

After high school, she worked for Pioneer Transfer and Storage for a time. She was then employed at the First National Bank in Lead as a clerk, and later as a secretary.

She married Wallace Edward Holmes in 1950 in Lead. They moved first to Fargo, North Dakota and then to Madison, Wisconsin for Wallace to pursue his studies, including a PhD. During this time, Victoria worked for the Fargo National Bank and the Madison Bank and Trust. They then moved to Hawaii where Wallace was an assistant professor at the University of Hawaii and Victoria worked at the University Food Processing Laboratory. Due to Wallace's declining health, they moved to Riverside, California where Vickie worked for the County of Riverside as an Administrative Secretary. Wallace passed away in 1961.

Victoria continued to work for many years for the County of Riverside, where she was a trusted Administrative Secretary in the highway department. While in Riverside, she met and married Robert Milton Pollock on April 8, 1972. Robert was also employed by the County of Riverside. They remained in Riverside after retirement, moving to Rapid City in August of 2001 to be near family. In their more than 50 years together, they enjoyed much love, laughter, and many friends, including those in the woodcarver's community, church, and dinner clubs. They enjoyed their time in the Black Hills area and especially enjoyed attending theatre and arts events. They were members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and until recent years very active in church activities. Victoria along with Robert were also strong supporters of the Suzie Cappa Art Center.

Victoria is survived by her loving husband, Robert; niece, Laurel Cappa; two nephews, David Cappa and Peter Cappa; eight great-nieces and nephews; and fifteen great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving parents and four adoring brothers, Lawrence, Peter, Arthur, and Alfred as well as their wives, all of whom she dearly loved. She was also preceded in death by special nieces Suzie Cappa, Pam Lindquist, and Sallie Graham.

A Memorial Eucharist will be offered on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, followed by a lunch and then entombment at Black Hills National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Suzie Cappa Art Center and Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
