Wayne Roop Obituary

Wayne Roop

January 1, 1950 - September 14, 2025

Kenneth Wayne Roop, age 75, of Wytheville, VA passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025. He was born January 1, 1950 in Lee County, VA, son of the late Hagan Russell Roop and Dora Orr Roop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn "Ty" Findlay Roop.

He graduated from Jonesville High School and loved attending his high school reunions. He earned his Associate degree at WCC, attended University of TN and Virginia Tech. In 1972, Wayne and his late wife, Ty acquired her father's business, the Wytheville Office Supply, and remained open until July of 2024. His business transitioned to the Division of A – Z Office Resource. Wayne served on the WCC Board of Trustees, a member and past president of the Iron Boots Society and a former member of Ducks Unlimited. He was a sole sponsor of Wythe County Sports Hall of Fame and served on the Wall of Honor Committee. Proud of vitalizing the town, Wayne purchased and developed properties in Wytheville.

Wayne lived a life rich in love, adventure, and connection. He was a man who always put family first, finding his greatest joy in the presence of those he loved. He was so proud of his children, Kevin, Che, and Mia. His eyes lit up when he spoke of their achievements, always reminding them how proud he was of who they'd become. His heart belonged to his one true love, Miss Ty, whose grace and warmth were the light of his life. Their bond was a beautiful testament to enduring love-a partnership built on laughter, shared dreams, and unwavering devotion. Wayne was always so proud to walk into a room with Miss Ty on his arm, a quiet reflection of the deep admiration and joy they shared in every moment together.

Wayne was a talented, calculated risk-taker in both business and life. Never afraid to go out on a limb to seal the deal, he embodied the spirit of boldness and determination. He was a shining example of the "work hard, play hard" mentality-driven in his pursuits, yet always making time to enjoy life's pleasures. He loved attending sporting events with his family, cheering from the stands with the same passion he brought to every aspect of his life.

Amelia Katherine held a special place in her grandfather's heart. She was his pride, his joy, and his favorite travel companion. He dreamed of showing her the world-not just through stories, but through shared experiences. Whether it was swimming with dolphins in the Bahamas or standing in awe before the majestic La Sagrada Família in Barcelona, he wanted to be by her side for every first adventure.

Wayne's kindness made strangers into friends, and his love of nature reflected his nurturing spirit. His garden was a place of peace and growth, much like the life he cultivated with those he loved. He was always ready and willing to help his community, offering support without judgment and lending a hand wherever it was needed.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life beautifully lived. His spirit will continue to bloom in the gardens he tended, the journeys he inspired, and the love he gave so freely.

Survivors include two sons, Ché Findlay Roop of Wytheville, Kevin Wayne Roop and Ann Darby of Colorado; a daughter, Mia Campbell Massi and husband, Kevin of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Amelia Massi; a sister, Margaret Ann Elkins of Jonesville, VA; a brother, Dennis Roop of Denver, Colorado; several special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 19, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Wytheville Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 20 at the church with the Reverend John Langham officiating.
