Robert Fickett Obituary

Robert V. Fickett

HAMILTON - It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert V. Fickett, 81, of Hamilton, MT. He passed away quietly at home surrounded by family on Monday, April 4, 2022. He was dispatched to heaven to fight the fires of hell.

Bob was born March 30, 1941, in Los Angeles, Ca. to Victor Fickett and Alice Scoones Fickett. He had an idyllic childhood camping and fishing with his family. He attended Dorsey High School graduating in 1959. He attended courses at LACC before joining the Navy. Upon completing his military service Bob followed in his father's footsteps and became a fireman with the city of Los Angeles, California. He spent 35 years fighting fires, rescuing people from unfortunate circumstances and helping many. He retired at the rank of Captain II in 1999.

In 1964 he married and subsequently had two sons, Ken and Craig. As the boys grew the family enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing and riding motorcycles. The boys participated in Indian Guides with Bob as the leader. After Bob divorced, he reconnected with a lady he had known as a young man. In 1985 Bob married the love of his life, Linda Bordner. The feeling was mutual. They both took pleasure in all things outdoors and wholeheartedly agreed to find a place to live where they could hunt, fish, ride horses, snow ski, raft and camp, basically in their backyard, all while taking advantage of a less crowded and hectic lifestyle. They bought property in Hamilton in 1994. When Bob neared retirement, they did a little work each year on their property preparing to build their forever home. In 1998 they fulfilled their dream and moved to Montana.

Bob and Linda also enjoyed traveling the world making trips to Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, and Western Europe including Greece and the islands of Mykonos and Santorini. A trip to the South Pacific had them visiting Palau, Micronesia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and China. Always paying for extra luggage to accommodate fishing and diving gear. They had the privilege of traveling with good friends by motorhome and spent five summers in Alaska and one summer in the Maritimes fishing and experiencing all the wonders of those spectacular places.

Bob had many pleasant years here in the Bitterroot Valley making numerous friends. Of all the wonderful things he participated in Bob most enjoyed fly fishing. He was a member of the Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot and the Tired Iron Club.

All who knew Bob will remember, and miss, his quick wit and sense of humor. No one escaped his heckling and needling. In truth we loved it. There are enough Bob-isms to last us the rest of our lives. They will keep us smiling and laughing which is the best tribute we can give to Bob.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Kenneth (Jennifer) Fickett of Yreka, CA and Craig Fickett of Sonora, CA; grandsons, Eddie (Emily) Robles, Drew Kannely-Robles, Corey Fickett, and Cooper Fickett; great grandson, Kyler Robles; sister, Patricia (Mal) Williams (Fickett) of Plano, TX; cousin (like a brother), Ron (Barbara) Scoones of North Bend, WA; cousin, Margie Junk (Scoones) of Issaquah, WA; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, May 2, 2022, at 4:00p.m at Daly Leach Chapel, in Hamilton. A second celebration will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., at 17141 Lynn Street, Huntington Beach, CA. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com

He was always smiling- some of my greatest moments in the fire service were following him into "battle" as a member of his crew. A great leader.
