DARBY - Robert Woodwell Pearcy, 81 passed away peacefully July 26th in Hamilton MT. Robert (Bob) was a beloved husband, father, and respected scholar. He was born on August 28th, 1941 in Boston, MA to Charles Miles Pearcy and Elizabeth Woodwell Pearcy. He was raised in Needham, MA. He attended the University of Montana, obtaining a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Forestry. His passion for learning and dedication to his field led him to pursue a PhD in Botany at Colorado State University.

Bob's academic pursuits took him to the Carnegie Institution of Washington in Palo Alto, CA and SUNY-Albany in New York, before moving to UC Davis in 1976, where he dedicated 30 years as professor in the Botany department

Throughout his career, Bob conducted extensive field research in diverse environments, including Death Valley, alpine regions, and the tropical rainforests of Hawaii, Australia, and Panama. Beyond academia, Robert was an avid fly fisher, enjoying this passion throughout his entire life.

Bob was an active member of the Davis Fly Fishers and Flyfishers of the Bitterroot serving as president of both organizations. He also spent many years as a member and President of the Tin Cup Water Board.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter, Shannon Pearcy (Sean McArthur) of Davis, CA, and Dean Pearcy (Melissa) of Spokane, WA. Grandchildren Gavin and Logan. He leaves behind his sister, Sara McNeil (Rich), and brother, Stephen Pearcy (Mary), as well as two nieces, Kristen Pearcy, and Alison Pearcy. He is also survived by nephews Bronson Hilliard of Denver and Brendan Hilliard of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on September 16 from 2-5 pm to honor the memory of Bob. This will be held at the family home in Darby. Friends of the family are welcome. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
