Alfred Dittman Obituary

Alfred Benjamin Dittman III "Big Al", 49, formerly of Bernville, PA, currently of Dover, DE passed away peacefully Thursday, July 6, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dover, Delaware, the son of Alfred B. and Kate Dittman Jr. of Dover, DE and son of Sandra Riegel Dittman of Bernville, PA. Alfred graduated from Tulpehocken Area High School, New Schaefferstown, PA in 1992. He was formerly employed by PP&G, Cheswold, DE. Also, Hirsch Industries. Dover, DE. Alfred was member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Bernville, PA. He also at times attended Salem Berne United Methodist Church in Hamburg, PA, where he had many friends. Alfred enjoyed anything that had to do with comic books. He had a huge collection of memorabilia. He also liked wrestling, collecting signed autographs and he enjoyed the Phillies baseball team. One of his favorite meals was Chicken & Dumplings. Alfred had an infectious smile and outgoing personality that brightened and warmed any room he entered. He enjoyed spending time with Benny and Kate. Alfred had such wonderful and supportive friends. He battled cancer for nearly three years with a positive attitude, courage, and determination. Alfred was a real fighter and a warrior. Even after two brain surgeries and treatments at Philadelphia Hospitals, he was still determined to enjoy life going to comic conventions, wrestling matches and conventions, music concerts, and Phillies ball games. Cancer wasn't going to slow him down. His family and great friends were right by his side. We would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice for all their help. It was so appreciated. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his Godchild, Ziza Jensen, several Aunts and Uncles, and many cousins. He will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Saturday, July 15 at 1 PM with visitation from 12:00 â€" 1 PM at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE 19709. I worked with Al at Hirsh Industries. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I also lost my daughter to brain cancer so after Al's diagnosis, he and I talked quite about his journey down this road. He maintained an amazing attitude throughout. I haven't spoken to him in over a year. I am happy he had 3+ years post-diagnosis to make some great memories. My deepest condolences.
