Andrew Woodward Obituary

Our Beloved Andrew James Woodward passed away on Feb. 3, 2010, peacefully in his sleep at the tender age of 24.

Andy was a 2003 graduate from Warwick High School. He then went on to Virginia Tech where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2006, in philosophy with minors in math and music.

His next adventure took him to Kutztown University, where he graduated with a master's degree in December 2009 in English education as Summa Cum Laude. At the time of his passing, he was student teaching at Wyomissing High School.

Andy was a loving, gentle soul who had a heart that reached out to everyone.

He was a musician of note, having composed and played with various jazz ensembles in Lancaster County while in high school, and in Blacksburg, Va., while a student at VA Tech.

He was also a gifted illustrator and cartoonist. Andy has written and published a book of his poetry and a composition book containing all of his essays.

Our Andy always loved to travel, which took him to Japan. He also loved playing practical jokes and he was always open to a new adventure.

Although he was taken from us prematurely, we know he is still playing his music and will always stay in our hearts and souls. We love you, Andy.

Andy is survived by his mother, Patricia A. (Simon) Woodward; his father, Mark R. Woodward; his brother, Christopher S. Woodward; and his grandmother, Sybil Woodward.

He is also survived by his aunts: Judy Simon, Bernville; Laura Jean, wife of Gary Ley, Rhode Island; and Terri Woodward, Virginia Beach; his uncle, Robert J. Simon, Gulfport, Fla.; his cousins, Jeffrey Ley and Kerri Houser, both of Rhode Island; and his beloved dog, Luna.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing. A visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 906 Penn Ave., Wyomissing, PA 19610. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.

Dear Mr.Woodward,
You were a great teacher. You must be one of the most patient and calm people I have ever met. You definitely made a great teacher and you will always be remembered. To Andrew's Family-I am very sorry for your loss... may God help you through these tough times and you will be in my prayers. And remember that after this life you will be with him for eternity in heaven :)

God’s Return For a Child….Reaching an Understanding

I’ll lend you for a little time, a child of mine, he said
For you to love the while they live and mourn for when they’re dead.

It may be six or seven years or twenty two or three
But will you till I call them back, take care of them for me?

They’ll bring you charms to gladden you and shall their stay be brief…..
You’ll have their tender memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise they will stay, since all from earth return…..
But there are lessons taught down there I want them all to learn.

I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true…
And from the folks that crowd life’s lanes, I have selected you.

Now will you give them all your love, don’t think the labor vain,
Not hate me when I come to call to take them home again?

I fancied that I heard them say
“Dear Lord, Thy Will Be Done!”
For all the joy that children bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.

We’ll shelter them with tenderness, we’ll love them while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay.

Shall the angels call for them much sooner than we’ve planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that came and try to understand.

Dear Andrew

You were taken too soon. My heart aches for your family and everyone who knew you. Our school has lost a wonderful student and truly kind soul. We were all better for having known you! Sleep sweetly.
