Anthony Carl Dugan

1933 - 2021

Anthony Carl Dugan, 88, died on December 20, 2021, in the Reading Hospital. He was beloved husband of the late Helen A. (Gruber) Dugan, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage before her passing in April of 2018. Born in Reading on March 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Anthony L. Przybylowicz and Florence Weiss Dugan. Formerly from Kenhorst, he was a resident of Manor at Market Square since 2018. Dugan, to all who knew him, was a 1951 graduate of Shillington High School. He was an iron worker for many years, retiring from Bechtel Corporation in 1988. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, hosting holiday barbeques, and making pizza on Friday evenings for family and friends. In 1987, at the age of 54, he earned his pilot’s license and flew until a knee replacement grounded him. Surviving Dugan are three daughters: Patricia A. Behen (Owen) Cherry Hill, NJ; Mary Jo Radka (Frank) of Mohnton, PA; and Kathleen Dugan, Shillington. He is also survived by his brother, Michael J. Dugan of Spring Township and a sister-in-law, Rosemary Crupi of Colony Park. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Rebecca Behen Chiarieri, Christopher Radka, and Jessica Radka Edwards, and three great grandchildren: Owen Chiarieri, Dylan Chiarieri, and Hailey Radka. In addition to his parents Dugan was predeceased by James J. Dugan, his stepfather, who raised him along with Florence Dugan, his mother. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Margaret E. Dugan (Peggy), a son, Michael A. Dugan, and his sister, Constance Dugan Huey. The family would like to thank the staff at Manor at Market Square and the nurses and doctors at Tower Health, especially Dr. Anthony A. Donato, for all of the care they provided him. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 12 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading.
