He was a former resident of Cheesequake, NJ, and former owner of Park-Wood Kennels, Cheesequake.
For many years he was a building contractor in New Jersey under the name A. Pittius Contractor. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees baseball team and the NY Giants football team, having gone to two Super Bowls, which the Giants won.
Augie was an all-around sportsman and enjoyed hunting for rabbits with his beagles and deer hunting with Brookside Gun Club and his sons. His great passion was his team of coondog field trial dogs, where he was very competitive throughout the circuit.
He retired in 1988 and moved to Bethel, PA, to spend more time traveling; doing his hobbies and helping others with carpenter work whenever needed.
He leaves behind his wife, Margaret "Peggy" (Carver) Pittius of 67 years; two sons, Wayne of Laurence Harbor, NJ, and Scott of Bethel, PA; three cherished grandchildren: August W., Jacob A. and Jessica Pittius; and a sister, Lillian Poling of Red Bank.
August was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Lillian (Menzel) Pittius; five brothers: Joseph, William, Robert, John and Herbert Pittius; and three sisters: Helen Dolan, Emma Jane Nadler and Elizabeth Visconi.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Scott and family-
So sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I myself did not know your father, but my in-laws certainly did. My son James lost his Pop Pop on March 24, so our hearts go out to Jess and your family. God bless!
