Brian Yoder Obituary

Brian D. Yoder, 40, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 2, 2011, in his Sinking Spring residence.

Born in West Reading, he was a son of Sharon A. (Whit-moyer) Gehret, wife of Rea, Denver, PA, and James A. Yoder, husband of Kathleen, Reading.

He was a graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, Shillington, and Gordon Phillips Beauty Academy, Reading.

Brian worked for Ara-mark, Inc. as the new business installation manager, last working Friday, Nov. 25, 2011. He was previously a partner in Michael Rocco's Partners for Hair, then continued his career at Lakeland Industries as the General Manager, Cagiva USA as the Distribution Manager, and Todd Lengle & Co. as the Vice President, prior to joining Aramark.

Brian loved Shillington, its history and volunteering within the community. He volunteered as a firefight-er/driver for the Shillington Fire Department, having won the award for Outstanding Fireman, and twice won the annual award for the most calls answered. He was also the treasurer of the department for five years. Brian was the former Vice Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission.

In addition, he volunteered as a coach for the Governor Mifflin Soccer Club and for the Mifflin Area Youth Baseball Association. His other love was auto racing, where he participated as a member of the Philadelphia Region of the Sports Car Club of America, where he was also a driving instructor. Quite accomplished, he won three PA State Championships and one North East Division Championship, along with several regional championships in the Philadelphia and Susque-hanna region. While participating with the PA Hillclimb Association, he set the hill record at Rose Valley, Trout Run, PA, and also at Pagoda, Reading, PA, resetting his own record in 2005.

Brian loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles and was also a former member of the Club Riders MC, Reading. He was a life member of the Neversink Gun Club, Reading. He was an avid Phillies fan, having attended Spring Training and numerous games each season.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Chase J. Yoder, and a daughter, Saige E. Yoder, both of Shillington, and a son, Calvin J. Yoder of Reading. He is also survived by step-brothers Scott Gehret, husband of Lori of Reading, Brad Gehret, husband of Michelle, Camp Hill, PA, and Mark, husband of Nichole of Orwigsburg.

He was predeceased by his brother and best friend Steve, in May 2011.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. A visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. All attending are requested to wear casual attire or their favorite Phillies fan gear.

Sharon and family,
There are not enough words to express my sympathy for the loss of Steve and now Brian. What a shock! Brian touched so many lives and was such a contributor to the community. You must be proud of the lives your children led, and now remember the good times you shared with the boys. I remember how the boys were always joking around and how helpful they were growing up. God bless you in this time of sorrow. With deepest sympathy,

I met Brian back in 2001 autoxing with the Philadelphia Region SCCA. I was a newbie running in H-Stock with my old GTi and Brian was a class champion in his CRX. I remember how soft spoken and kind Brian was. Always willing to help instruct new guys like myself.
It has been some time since I have seen or talked with him and my heart goes out to his family. Brian made a large impact on many of the Philadelphia Region members and will never be forgotten.

Brian was one of a group of committed public safety professionals who organized the Emergency Responder Safety Institute. Brian was an expert on roadway safety for first responders through his work at the former Mifflin Valley Reflective in Shillington. He will be missed greatly by his fellow members who respected his knowledge and his commitment that came with his positive outlook. Brian helped save the lives of many roadway first responders. That is his legacy.

I just heard of Brian's passing yesterday from my grandfather, and though we will be unavailable to attend the services on Saturday, we wanted to send our deepest sympathy to the entire family. Loss such as this is difficult on everyone, but our hearts are mostly with Chase, Saige, and Calvin; may they have the strength to get through this very difficult time and may they remember all the good there is to remember about their dad!
