Charles Gaughan Obituary


Charles E. "Duke" Gaughan Sr., 76, of Mt. Penn, passed away Thursday, August 18th, peacefully, at Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading. Charles was born in Allegany, Md., on September 6, 1939, a son of the late Dorothy E. (Powell) and Charles F. Gaughan.

On January 1, 1969 he married Nancy A. (Peck) Gaughan, who survives him.

A graduate of LaSalle High School, Cumberland, Md., Class of 1957, he worked as a Pipe Line Supervisor and Vice President at Hahn Construction for 40 years, retiring in 2004.

Duke was an avid hunter, loved playing cards, baseball and working in his gardens. He was a John Wayne fan and he loved his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by 4 children: 2 daughters, Denise R., wife of Kenneth Schlegel, of Reading, Pa., and Amy E., wife of Paul Day, of Toms River, N.J.; 2 sons, Charles E. Gaughan Jr., husband of Kelly of Morgantown, Pa., and Bryan K., husband of Jessica Gaughan, of Laureldale, Pa.

He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Corey Feaster, Kelly Reid, Kristi Mowrer, Paxon and Payce Day; and 3 great-grandchildren: Brooke Reid, Evan Cochran and Brody Feaster.

His surviving siblings are: Robert Gaughan, husband

of Joanne, of Seattle, Wash.; Rick Gaughan, husband of Bonnie, of Orlando, Fla.; Norman Gaughan, husband of Gail, of Cumberland, Md.; Randy Gaughan of Fla.; Craig Gaughan, husband of Faye, of Baltimore, Md.; Patti Gaughan of Fla.; Danny Hook, husband of Jinny Hook, of Cumberland, Md.; Carl Hook, husband of Sheila, of Cumberland, Md.; and Larry Hook, husband of Cathy, of Cumberland, Md.

At the family's request there will be no visitation.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on

Saturday, September 10 at the John P. Feeney Funeral Home.

Arrangements entrusted to the John P. Feeney Funeral Home, in Reading's Centre Park Historic District, 625 N. 4th St. at Centre Ave., Reading, PA 19601.
