Daniel Sweeney Obituary

Daniel J. Sweeney, 88, of Douglassville, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Victoria (Bruno) Sweeney, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Daniel and Anne (Atkinson) Sweeney. Dan graduated from Central Catholic High School and attended St. Joseph's University. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Douglassville where he was a lecture for many years. Dan and his wife Victoria owned and operated Bruno Furs, established in Reading in 1926 and serving customers for over 95 years. He took great joy in the business and looked forward to it each day. He was devoted to his family and made sure to attend his children's and grandchildren's school functions and games. He loved telling jokes and would always ask if you "heard this one." Dan enjoyed spending time in his garden and looked forward to his trips to Bermuda and time spent in Beach Haven, New Jersey. In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his children; Tori (Sweeney) DiPiazza, Melanie (Sweeney) Webber, and Daniel, husband of Bobbi Ann. He is also survived by his grandson's; Tucker, Daniel, and Roman, many nieces and nephews, as well as his son-in-laws, Todd Webber, and Mark DiPiazza. Dan was predeceased by his sister, Nancy (Sweeney) Levasseur, and his Aunt Loretta Atkinson. My prayers and sympathies to the entire Sweeney family. I don't ever recall that when I saw Mr. Sweeney, he didn't take the time to say hello and ask how I was. He was a wonderful man. My God bless his soul.

Dan was kindness personified. I´ll miss his broad smile. There are so few real gentlemen left in this world. His passing robs us of someone truly extraordinary. I will miss him terribly.
