Donald Garrison Obituary


Donald "Don" E. Garrison, of Leesport, Pa., passed on Aug. 13, 2018, in his sleep at Berks Heim Nursing facility.

Born May 23, 1925, in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of the late Pearl E. Garrison (Spence) and stepson of Daniel E. Garrison III.

He was predeceased by a son, Steven Garrison; and is

survived by two children, Dean Garrison, companion of

Judy Pratt, of Shirley, W.Va.; and Kelly (Garrison), wife of Rex Ulmer, of Tallahassee, Fla.

Other survivors include three grandchildren: Heidi

Garrison, of Leesport, Pa.; Paige Zellner, of Reading, Pa.; and Maximus Ulmer, of Tallahassee, Fla. There are also three great-grandchildren: Zane Hess, Layla Zellner and Brehson Bortz.

Donald graduated from El Monte High School in

California and enlisted in the Army to serve in WW II.

Afterward, he completed 3 years at Stanford University studying political science before re-enlisting in the Air Force to serve in the Korean War. Donald served from 1943 to to 1969, ending his military career as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. Donald received the purple heart, bronze star and other metals for his bravery and service to his country.

In between his military service, Donald obtained a law

degree from South Texas College of Law on Jan. 25, 1964. He went on to private practice and sat as a municipal court judge in Texas. He also served in State of Texas House of Representatives, 22nd Legislative District in Houston, Texas, during the 1960s.

Donald enjoyed fishing, boating, reading, flea markets and spending time with family. He loved animals and

enjoyed his two cats.

A graveside service with full military honors was held at Ft. Indiantown Gap Military Cemetery in Annville, Pa., on Friday, August 17, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.
