Ed Cahill Obituary

Born in the Bronx, NY on March 20,1938, Ed Cahill was the proud son of Irish immigrants, James and Mary (McCarthy) Cahill, who told endless stories of the Old Country. He was born with the gift of gab. His dad worked at Graybar Building and his mom was an avid reader and librarian. Early in his life, he could always be found on the basketball court before, after, and most likely during school. After graduating from Adelphi College with a Bachelor of Science degree, he coached lacrosse, baseball, and basketball while teaching PE at Elmont High School in NY. This love of sports later was channeled into his passion of golf. Soon after marrying and starting a family, Ed moved to Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania and worked for Seltzer Insurance before beginning a successful career as founder of Cahill Insurance with his former wife. Close to retirement, he joined his business once again with Seltzer insurance. Ed would remarry Suzanne Styer Ericksen and was involved in his parish in various aspects, serving on the building committee at Immaculate Conception Church in Birdsboro previously serving as Eucharistic Minister at St. Ambrose, Schuylkill Haven. Sue and Ed would live their life first on Beaver Run Farm and then in Reading. They enjoyed their townhouse where they lived for many years with their beloved dog, Toto. He would enlighten Sue on her new passion- golf. They traveled often to South Carolina and Hawaii to visit friends and play golf. Ed could be found on the course, perhaps on his second round of golf or afterwards in the clubhouse. He enjoyed many adventures with his illustrustrious golfing buddies. His proudest golfing accomplishment was 8 holes in one. Many would attest that his idea of heaven would be golfing at St. Andrews in Scotland or in Pebble Beach with little wind under blue skies. He is survived by his wife, Sue Ericksen Cahill; his son, Michael Cahill, and daughter-in-law Erin; his daughter, Christine (Cahill) Brown, and son-in-law, Roy Brown; his daughter, Jennifer Cahill-Shadle; as well as his stepchildren, Leif Ericksen II and Tor Ericksen; and grandchildren, Zach Cahill, Josh Cahill, Katlyn Brown, Michael Brown, Dylan Brown, Christian Brown, Laura Shadle, Connor Shadle, Marilyn Shadle, Houston Ericksen and Ava Ericksen as well as his beloved puppy, Toto. Mass will be on Wednesday, June 8th at 10 am at Immaculate Conception, Birdsboro. Family will receive guests for one hour prior 9-10. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 905 Chestnut Street, Douglassvile, PA or St. Francis Hospice Home, 144 Hillside Drive, Shillington, PA 19607 in memory of Ed Cahill. I remember him as an affable, voluble, sometimes sarcastic, always interesting, and a nice man. My condolences to Sue and the rest of the family.

On several occasions, Ed visited us at our home in Thomson, Georgia where we would attend the World Famous Masters Golf Tournament.
Ed will be missed by family and friends. He was a very personable guy who never met a stranger. Ed was family, my daughter-law´s father.
