Edward Symons Obituary


Edward Walter Symons, age 70. Born and raised in Reading, PA. Formerly of Batavia and currently of North Aurora, Illinois. He passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 in his home surrounded by his family. Edward was born Oct. 7, 1941. He was the son of John Walter and Lillian May (Fair) Symons.

Ed attended Reading High School and at the age of eighteen, he joined the Navy in Nov. 1959 and served till Nov. 1963. After six months he re-enlisted in April 1964 and served till April 1968. In 1964, he met and married Katherine Johnson while in training at Great Lakes Training School of Radar. In 1968, he became an Air Traffic Controller/Flight Service working until his retirement in 1991. In 1992 he went to work as a part time driver at The Holmstad in Batavia and work there till December of 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Katherine A. (Johnson), one son, Michael & Amy (Smith) Symons and their children, Sydney & Dylan, of North Aurora; three daughters, Marilyn Oplinger of Shillington, PA, and her children, Janel & Chad Smith of Fleetwood, PA, and Jessica Oplinger of Shillington, PA; Beth & Rich Stocker and their children, Katelyn, Jonathan & Peter of Valparaiso, Indiana; Susan & Mark Landreth of North Aurora; four brothers, Fred (Darlene) Symons of Wyomissing, PA, John (Vivian) Symons of Reading, PA; Leroy (Caroline) Symons of Bishopville, S.C.; and Bill (Nancy) Frymoyer Jr. of Womelsdorf, PA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, William Frymoyer Sr., son-in-law, Kurt Oplinger, and brother Louis Symons.

Services were private.

I also worked with and for Ed way back in the 80's & 90's. When we get together and reminisce about the good old days, Eddie's name still comes up with fond memories! Godspeed, Eddie.

Sue we have talked a lot about the loss of your father and my brother and mother, and my father who has been gone for 34 yrs it is a very hard thing that we are going through but Allen and I are their for you just like I know you and Mark are their for me.
