Elizabeth Wentzel Obituary

Elizabeth J. Wentzel, 64, of Blandon, passed away November 24, 2013 in Reading Hospital, West Reading.

Elizabeth was the wife of Franklin Wentzel Jr. whom she married September 21, 1985 in Reading. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Betty (Torola) Rys.

Elizabeth was a 1967 graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended Felician College in Lodi, NJ, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.

Elizabeth (Betty Jane or Elise known by friends) entered the convent in 1967 and became Sister Elise. She was in the convent from 1967 until 1981. While in the convent she taught at Basking Ridge, Washington, D.C., Prospect Park, NJ, and Trenton, NJ.

She started teaching at St. Ignatius Loyola School in Whitfield in 1981 and was teaching until November 21, 2013. She loved teaching and was always willing to help students, many times working late tutoring. She loved her summers off and would entertain all summer enjoying her friends, family and life by the pool.

She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Laureldale.

Elizabeth was a loving wife, a compassionate teacher and a great friend to all who knew her. She will always be loved, truly missed but never forgotten.

Elise was a dedicated, caring teacher and a kind friend. I feel very lucky to have known her and taught with her for my 28 years of teaching at St. Ignatius. Even though she herself did not feel well, she would always ask how I was doing. She will live on in the hearts of all who knew her-especially her beloved students! May she rest in peace.

I am so glad I was able to spend an evening with Betty Jane last September as our St. Mary's 8th Grade class gathered to celebrate our reunion. Betty Jane was my best friend in grade school and I could not have found a better "buddy" than her. She always made me feel happy with her smile, even when we were cleaning rooms in the old St. Mary's convent together on Saturday mornings. I know you are at peace being with Our Lord Betty. Thank you for being a wonderful part of my childhood. I will miss you! Until we meet again! Joann Jurasinski Matijasich

Aunt Elise was the kind of person that puts others before herself, that was one of many of her best qualities. She would always listen to anything that I would talk to her about, laugh at any joke I'd say and was always loving to everyone. I loved going to the pool parties that my Aunt Elise and Uncle Frank would hold, they were always fun cookouts with them. It will never be the same without her. I know that she is in a better place now, with no worries in the world.

I will miss you so much.

Love your Nephew...

Rest in peace my dear friend. I will always remember our fun chats when you would walk down to the copy room for coffee with me. I always admired your strength, faith, and love. I will miss you and that wonderful smile. My Kristina was so lucky to have been taught by you. Kristina has been making me smile with funny stories from your class when she was in 6th grade.

Matthew 5:8 states "Happy are the pure in heart, since they will see God.".A wife, mother, friend, and teacher who maintained that purity of the heart and was able to display "love out of a clean heart" for those that knew her.

Mrs. Wentzel…beloved teacher to both of our children. I will miss your spunk and firm love. You were a gift to St. Ignatius. Your perseverance despite such illnesses was an incredible example for all of the children's (and adult's) lives that you touched. I marvel at your strength and integrity. Always will. Rest in peace...

Until we see you again,
