Erma Kershner Obituary

Erma A. (Fritz) Kershner, 84, Windsor Township, died Aug. 4, 2007, at 11:40 p.m. in her residence.

Her husband, Alvin C. Kershner, died Jan. 2, 1969.

Born in Hynemansville, Weisenberg Township, Lehigh County, she was a daughter of the late Clement Fritz and Verna (Derr) Fry.

She worked for Burkey Underwear Co. and Wright’s Knitwear, both of Hamburg, for 45 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1994.

Erma was a 1940 graduate of Kutztown High School and a 1941 graduate of Reading Business School.

She was a member of Zion’s Church, Perry Township.

Surviving are a stepson, Paul A. Kershner, Windsor Township; and two stepdaughters, Grace (Kershner) Leibensperger, Windsor Township; and Jean (Kershner) Rhoads, Tilden Township.

There are two granddaughters, six stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Glenn A. Kershner, who died April 5, 2003.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Zion’s Church, Windsor Township, with the Rev. Randy A. Bond officiating. Burial will be in Zion’s Cemetery, Perry Township. Viewing will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Ave., Reading, PA 19605, or Asera Care Hospice, 690 Stockton Drive, Suite 100, Exton, PA 19341.

Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Hamburg, is in charge of arrangements.

I only knew Erma a short time. I met her while working at Wright's. Soon after I started she retired. My sympathy goes out to her family. I am Paul Kershner's niece on his wifes side of the family.
