Township, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2017.
Born in Shenandoah, Pa., Evelyn was the daughter of the late Felix and Regina (Leonarczyk) Luscavage.
A graduate of the Class of 1965 of Immaculate Heart High School, Fountain Springs, Evelyn taught second grade for six years at St. John Baptist de La Salle School in
Shillington as part of the Cadet teaching program.
In 1971, she decided to put her creative talents to work and went to Empire Beauty School to become a hairdresser as well as a manager. She started at Renee's in Shillington and then moved across the street to manage the Randy Rick Salon, which later became Styles on the Avenue. Evelyn's customers and coworkers were like part of her family. She was a great listener as well as a trusted adviser. She retired in 2014.
Living a full life meant Evelyn said yes to whatever life had to offer. Travel, crafts, volunteering, baking, hosting parties were all part of what made her happy.
Family played a central part in Evie's life. She enjoyed taking her niece and nephew on trips and even continued with her great nieces. Trips back to Shenandoah for the holidays were highlights to her year.
Evelyn is survived by her brother, Ronald Luscavage, and his wife Mary, of Shenandoah Heights; nephew, Tony Luscavage and wife Jennifer, and by their children, Brittannie, Alexandria and Nick Luscavage; and niece Gina Luscavage Ross and husband Michael, and by their
children Olivia, Jonas and Jacob Ross. She is also survived by several cousins.
Friends were really like family to Evelyn and she was
fortunate to have many close friends. Barbara Zieckler and Gerry Williams shared many happy times with Evelyn and her closest friend, Rita Tomashitis, who was more like her sister. Coworkers, Judy Howell, Bonnie Kohler, Debra Miller and Davina Brodman, as well as many others, were delighted to call her their friend.
Although she had no children of her own, she was lucky to have Kevin Doan in her life for the last twenty years. Sadly, Evelyn spent her last years with Dementia, and
Kevin was always there to help.
Callie and Lily, her pet cats, will miss her as much as we all will.
At Evelyn's request services will be private. Burial will be at the convenience of her family in St. Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the caregivers from Heartland Hospice and Caring Matters. Evelyn's last wish was to do something for Alzheimer's Research.

I attended St. John's for only 1st-3rd grades. I have vivid memories of Miss Lescavage, as well as Miss Thomashitis, to this day. They were wonderful roll models of strong, independent, Christian women at a time when women roll models were somewhat lacking in the late '60's.
Imagine the numbers of other children whose lives she influenced! What a legacy to leave. I only regret I didn't know her as an adult. Her family and friends are truly blessed to have had her in their lives.
God bless you all, for I know with certainty that "Miss Lescavage" is sitting in the palm of God's hand right now,....and smiling.

My condolences to Rita, Ronald and all of Evelyn's family and friends. Evelyn was a classmate at IHHS and we called each other cousin so her inclusive nature was evident even in high school treating others as her family. We are saddened by her passing. May the LORD bless her and keep her safe in the Palm of His Hand.
