He was the husband of Donna M. (Witman) Gerhart. Born in Reading he was the son of Pearl A. (Kintzer) Greath of Sinking Spring and the late Ralph H. Greath.
He was a correctional officer at Berks County Prison for 20 years retiring in 2001 and served in the United States Army.
He was a member of the Mohnton Fish and Game as well as many other rod and gun clubs.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Gerhart is survived by his brother, Kenneth E. Gerhart, partner of Rea L. Moyer of Reinholds. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd P. Gerhart.
Graveside service will be held privately in St. John's (Hain's) Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League PO Box 69, Mohnton, PA 19540 in memory of Mr. Gary L. Gerhart.
