Gerald Sholedice Obituary


Gerald Paul "Gerry" Sholedice, 86, of Rockland Township died April 5, 2016 at

the Lutheran Home at Topton, Longswamp Township.

He was the husband of Joanne Caroline (Strause) Ludwig Sholedice, whom he

married October 5, 2002. Gerry was predeceased by his first wife, Erma S. Sholedice, December 4, 1996.

Born May 16, 1929, in Reading, he was a son of the late Russell and Goldie (Sloss) Sholedice.

Gerry was a 1949 graduate of Fleetwood High School.

He was employed as a foreman with Reider, Inc.,

Wyomissing, for 44 years, retiring in 1994. During his

tenure there, he worked on various large projects thoughout the county, including Berkshire Mall, Muhlenberg School District, Albright College and Carpenter Technology.

He was a member of the Carpenter's Local Union #492

in Reading. Gerry was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Fleetwood.

An avid woodworker, he loved working in his home woodshop.

Gerry was active with Berks County Dog Training since the 70s. Other interests he had were square dancing,

bowling and collecting trains.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his two children, Craig A., husband of Tammy S. (Miller) Sholedice, of Rockland Township, and Beverly A., wife of James R. Desrosiers, of Finksburg, MD; and his two step-children, Barbara J., wife of Wallace McCulley, of Bowers, and David C., husband of Susan Ludwig, of Fleetwood.

Other survivors include his six grandchildren: Laura, Alex, Jordan, William, Lucas and Elizabeth; three step-grandchildren: Kelly, Julie and Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Isaac; and two step-great-grandchildren, Max and Beckett.

Gerry was predeceased by his five siblings: Russell,

Violet, Gladys, Betty and Franklin.

Services will be Saturday, April 9th, at 11 a.m., in St. Paul's UCC, 5 W. Arch Street, Fleetwood, PA, 19522. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Hope (Dryville) Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 237 Court Street, Reading, PA 19601 and/or St. Paul's Church, at the above address.

Craig and Beverly. I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Joanne I am so sorry for your loss. I remember getting into trouble with Erma while my sister was taking her piano lessons because he would be making me laugh at some silly thing he said or did. He was a kind and funny man.
