Herman Craig Obituary


Herman Willard Craig Jr., 68, of Reinholds, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Ephrata Community Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Baltimore to the late Herman and Mary Agnes (Shifflett) Craig and was the husband of Betty Jane (Myers) Craig, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

Herman attended Swamp Christian Fellowship Church, Reinholds. He was a member of the Reinholds VFW Post 6759, he was an Eagles fan, Nascar fan, enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and liked meeting new people.

He worked as a construction worker for Penn Jersey Products for many years, prior to his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Wayne Sr., husband of Mechell (Grahm) Craig of Conestoga, Herman III, husband of Denise (Prinzinger) Craig of Bally; 2 daughters, Cindy, wife of Brad Bolognese of Bernville, Wendy Craig-Knight, wife of Howard Knight Jr. of Ephrata; and a great-grandson that Herman was raising, Brian (Jakey) Avans; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard, husband of Faithgale Craig of King of Prussia; 2 sisters, Patricia (Theresa), wife of Bruce Rodgers of Bechtelsville, Mary Jane, wife of Charles Selph of GA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Eshleman.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 6, from 10 to 11 AM at the Swamp Christian Fellowship Church, 390 Swamp Church Rd., Reinholds, followed by his funeral service at 11 AM, with Pastor Craig Snow officiating. Interment services will take place at 1:30 PM, at the Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum, 701 Farmington Rd., Pottstown, PA 19464.

If desired, memorial contributions in Herman's memory may be made to Reinholds VFW Post 6759, PO Box 144, Reinholds, PA 17569. Arrangements by Stradling Funeral Homes, Inc., Akron/Ephrata. Online condolences can be given at www.stradlingfuneralhome.com.

My favorite uncle...I will always remember him coming to pick me up as a child so I could spend a week or so with him and Aunt Betty. And I'll never forget him trying to sneak out for ice cream without us. He was so full of love.
