He was the beloved husband of Arlene Krumholz. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 4, 1924, and was the only son of Fred and Gertrude Krumholz.
Although originally intending to study music at Juilliard, he received his degree in business and industrial engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
His admission to and participation in their famous Michigan Marching Band became one of the biggest thrills of his life, a great proving ground and an enduring memory.
During his stint in the US Navy during World War II, Jake continued his studies at Harvard until he went to sea, serving on the Destroyer USS Simpson in the Atlantic. He was sent to India, Burma, and then Shanghai, where he was stationed.
The end of the war and his discharge from the Navy brought him to Reading, where he joined his father and became the President of Kelray Knitting Mills in West Reading.
After a career in manufacturing, he became a retail merchant in the then booming Reading Outlet heyday, creating Moss Street Menswear, The House of Leather and others.
Following this, he established and enjoyed a new career as an award winning custom homebuilder.
Jake loved sailing and tennis and going to Martha's Vineyard with his family. He was a gifted photographer. He was a superb woodworker and an accomplished clarinetist, two of his greatest passions.
But above all, he loved his family deeply and was a loyal and enduring friend. A humble man of infinite grace and of abounding love, a gentle man who touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Survivors include a son, Michael, and three daughters: Lisa Siebert, (wife of Larry Siebert), Beth Krumholz and Amy Krumholz; seven grandchildren: Carly, Shawn, Josh, Brett, Mollie, Alex and Jacob; and one great grandchild, Jonas.
Burial will be private. Visitation will be at the Krumholz residence on Tuesday, from 2-4, Wednesday 7-9 and Thursday 7-9. Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
