Jane Schaefer Obituary

Jane E. (Huck) Schaefer passed into the arms of her savior in the early morning hours on January 7, 2024 with family at her bedside at her home in Temple, PA. at the age of 93. Born on March 7, 1930, she grew up in a large family in Reading, PA with her father and mother Bernard and Alice (Rundle) Huck and nine brothers and sisters who all predeceased her. Affectionately known as Jelly by her siblings, Jane graduated from Reading Catholic High School in 1948. Jane worked at Whitner's Restaurant and catering business. Jane loved working in the food industry which she did for 61 years, eventually running her own catering business before she fully retired. Family was Jane's first and foremost love. She met Adolph C. Schaefer at a dance in Reading and later married him. They had three children, Donald, Robert and Ellen, who loved her deeply. She instilled in them a love of fun, nature, and God. Over the years Jane's family grew to include six grandchildren: Brigitte (Schaefer) Quintinsky, Brad Schaefer, Erika (Schaefer) Perry, Mariah Frazier, Kylie Baker, Brittney (Baker) Shurr and six great-grandchildren. Her biggest enjoyments came when spending time with them, which she did till the end. Next to family, Jane's most important work was with her church and senior groups. She volunteered her time extensively at Holy Guardian Angels (HGA) and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Jane could always be found at daily mass. She was a Eucharistic minister and enjoyed going to nursing homes to deliver the Eucharist and spend time with those who also found comfort in God's love. Donations can be made to the: St. Vincent De Paul Society, c/o HGA, 3121 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA 19605. Services for Jane will be held on Friday, January 19 at the Stitzel Funeral Home, 3300 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA 19605 with viewing from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. A morning viewing at the funeral home will occur on Saturday, January 20 from 9:00 am-9:40 am and sharing of memories from 9:40 am to 10:00 am. A Catholic Funeral Mass will then occur at HGA at 10:30 am, burial at Gethsamene Cemetery, with a luncheon directly after. Online condolences can be signed at: www.stitzelfuneralhomes.com

To Bob, Don and families,
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother. It seems like it wasn't too long ago I would see her in church lectoring and doing a great job at that. She was always friendly to me and had a nice word to say. Cherish your memories you and your families have shared with her. Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
