Joan Seidenman Mellon, born November 25, 1923, passed from this life on Wednesday, one day shy of her 98th birthday. Joan was born and raised in Philadelphia. Her parents were Ellis and Hortense Seidenman. Joan went to Duke University where she met Robert Mellon, MD. Married 70 years, they had five children: Michael, Denver PA; Seth and Noah, Reading, Abigail (deceased), Adam, father of Joan’s beloved granddaughter Zoe, Switzerland. Joan worked as a social worker for many years. She and her colleagues at Berks County Head Start helped many families. Joan was an avid reader and lover of literature. She enjoyed painting, classical music, jazz, tennis and swimming in her pond. Joan had a positive spirit. She and Bob shared life-long friendships at home and abroad. In 2019 with the help of Patti Reed, endeared caregiver in her last years, Joan published a memoir, Okinawa Yo, based on her young married life with Bob in Okinawa. Memorial plans are pending.
