John Catchmark Obituary

John "Pop" Catchmark Sr., 88, of

Wyomissing, passed away on September 4, 2018, having just celebrated 59 years of

marriage to Julia Ann (Zemerauskas).

Born in Black Heath, Schuylkill County, he was the son of the late Pearl (Urban) and Michael Catchmark.

John was a 1949 graduate of Cass Township High School.

Following high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean War, achieving the rank of

Technical Sergeant. He is a proud member of the Penn State University class of 1959, receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering.

John was employed by Western Electric for 30 years,

retiring as a Section Chief in 1985. A highlight of his

engineering career was working on a government defense project. He went on to own and operate Charlie's Valley Inn in Carsonia, and become a licensed commercial real

estate agent and broker.

John never sat still; he was always busy. He could fix

anything with a cord. He enjoyed playing the organ,

wood-working and traveling to Florida in his RV. John also gave his time and talent to many community organizations, including The American Legion of Pennsylvania, where he was a continuous member for 50 years. He served as

President of the Laurel Run Swim Association. During his children's high school years, he was president of the Wilson Band Aids, where he was instrumental in bringing lights to the field.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three

children: John, husband of Wendy, Mohnton, Joanne, wife of Mike Andruchek, Minersville, and Jim, husband of

Katie, Wyomissing. He is also survived by four wonderful grandchildren: Jessica and Rebecca Andruchek,

Minersville, and John and Kate Catchmark, Mohnton. Two of his six siblings survive him, Ann Smith, Pottsville, and Michael Catchmark, Florida.

A viewing will be held Friday, September 7, 2018, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Committal with Military

Honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be
