John F. “Jack” Espig, 76, of Cumru Township, passed away December 31, 2021, at Fairlane Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Arnold Kurt & Helena (Frank) Espig. He was the husband of Yvonne O. (DeCarlo) Espig with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage in June. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, and grandfather who had a love for animals. Jack was a 1963 graduate of Reading High School and a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA aboard the U.S.S. Fort Mandan LSD #21 where he was a signalman second class. Jack worked as a lineman and serviceman at Met-Ed for 39 years, retiring in 2005. He also helped in the clean-up at Three Mile Island unit 2 reactor. Jack was a member of Tutonia Lodge No. 367 F&AM, serving as worshipful master in 1995 and 1998. He was also a member of Herman-Humboldt Lodge No. 125 F&AM, served on the Board of Directors at the Masonic Center Foundation and was a member of Greg Post #125 American Legion in Temple. In addition to his wife Yvonne, Jack is survived by his daughters – Tina Louise Gehris, wife of Brian Gehris (Cumru Twp) and Melissa M. Sager, wife of Wayne Sager (Rockwell, TX); his brother-in-law Peter DeCarlo and his cousin Helmut Espig. Jack is also survived by his two grandchildren, Matthew Gehris and Allison Gehris. Jack was kind and could make friends easily. He loved to talk and tell a joke. Jack also loved working outdoors, hunting, gardening, going to the beach house, and going on ski trips with his family.
