She leaves behind her husband, Dennis R. Conrad, of Suffolk, Va.; sister, Heather Tomasek (Lee) of Stuart, Fla.; sons, Paul Rooney (Susan), of Virginia Beach Va.; and Brian Rooney, of Key West, Fla.
The Symons family moved to St. Vincent and the sisters who were in their teens managed a hotel in Barbados. Kara married Ralph Rooney, had two sons and divorced Mr. Rooney nine years later. She lived in Key West in the 1970s as an advertising agent for the Key West Citizen
newspaper. A realtor in Hampton Roads for over 40 years, she started in 1977 at Landmark Realtors and worked for a variety of firms such as Marshall Ewald, Rose and Krueth, the Allen Company and Century Realty. She was the on-site agent at Walnut Hills Estates in Suffolk, Va., during the 1980s-1990s.
Kara enjoyed traveling and cruises; from her second
husband's hometown, Kutztown, Pa., for the Kutztown
Folk Festival, to the Oktoberfest in Helen, Ga., to the
Appalachian Mountains, to the sands of Key West, Fla., and her favorite spot on earth, Bermuda!
Kara had an advance directive which stated that her
remains are to be cremated and no memorial, so no
memorial services are planned. Kara will be missed by all who knew her.
The family is being assisted by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences may be offered at RWBakerFH.com.
