Marie Sulman

1926 - 2022

Marie Sulman, 95, of Allentown formerly of Pembroke Pines, FL and Reading, PA died January 25, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Medical Center–Cedar Crest, Allentown. Born, May 4, 1926, in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Lula Mae (Whetstone) Hart. She was the widow of Gerald (Jerry) Sulman who died November 27, 2006. They were married for 62 years at the time of his death. Marie was a 1945 graduate of Reading High School. Marie’s joy was fashion. She enjoyed a long career helping women build stylish wardrobes. Employers included Emil Otto, Betty Cobb, Hess Brothers, Adams, Wanamaker’s and Macy’s. Subsequently, she worked at Sophy Curson Boutique in Ft. Lauderdale, FL before retiring. Marie and Jerry volunteered with The James Jr. Fund of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, FL for many years. Marie loved unconditionally and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was known for her caring nature and especially for her famous greeting cards. Until the end she wrote personal notes to friends and family far and wide. Her tattered address books are legendary. Surviving are her two daughters: Susan Allison, wife of James R. of Easton and Janet Sulman-Pratt, wife of Robert Pratt of Allentown. Also surviving are her four beloved grandsons: Dr. Greg T. Allison of Phillipsburg, NJ; Scott B. Allison, husband of Jeannette of Somerset, NJ; Levi Lederer of Beaverton, OR; and Rem F. Lederer, Jr. of Easton. She also leaves behind her cherished great granddaughter, Emma Allison, step great-great grandchildren Michael D. and London Larks and Carter Bealer, sister-in-law Marjorie (Tootie) Moyer and several nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her sister, Josephine Hart, and her half-brother, Donald Hart. Services at the funeral home will be for family only. Burial will follow at Laureldale Cemetery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA.
