Mark was a student in my fourth grade class at 10th & Green Elementary School. His kindness and understanding of service to others was evident even then. Once he left his “Mark”, you didn’t forget him. He made a difference. I knew the whole family and found them all remarkable! It was with sorrow that I read of his passing. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.

It's funny how in life's journey two people's paths can cross a few times, and sometimes you don't realize it. That happened with Mark and I. The first time we met, I'm sure he didn't even remember because he was a young toddler at his Grandmother's on Muhlenberg St. (which happened to be on my Reading Eagle route in the late 60s, early 70s). I remember his Grandparents and his Aunt Lucy being so proud of their new Grandson and Nephew. I moved on into adulthood which is where Mark and I met for the 2nd time. He was a volunteer firefighter at the Liberty Fire Co. #5 and I at the Union Fire Co. #13. Our paths crossed during our volunteer firefighting days because Engine 5 ran 2nd due in Engine 13's 1st due area. So I had the honor of working with "Dewey" on fire calls and got to see first hand his desire to serve his fellow man. The world is a better place for having Mark in it. He will be sorely missed by his colleagues and the community he served. Remember the good times as they outweigh the bad. Jeanne and my condolences are with the Kulp-Riegel family as they deal with their loss. Our prayers and thoughts will be with you as well. Stay strong.

Sometimes, if you are really lucky, someone comes into your life that can make your day turn around. I was fortunate enough to be blessed to know such a person... Mark “Dewey” Kulp. Always a warm smile, very positive, kind, compassionate, fun, dedicated, and the list goes on. It’s a punch in the gut, that you have passed, and everyone whose life you touched is left feeling so deeply saddened and shocked. You were one of a kind. A rarity in the human race. Loved by so many... may God receive you with open arms, you were an angel here on earth, and now in heaven. May your family find comfort in knowing how many loved you, and were touched by your presence and love of life. Rest In Peace, you are deeply missed.
